KARACHI: The Cabinet meeting in Sindh, presided over by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, approved several crucial decisions, including extending Rangers’ deployment in the Karachi division for another six months, a press statement said on Friday.
As per the press release, other approvals include the allocation of Rs1.5 billion for the procurement of an MRI System for SUIT Sukkur, the introduction of Premium Number Plates for vehicles, and releasing Rs10.189 billion for the payment of retired civil servants’ dues.
Minister Sharjeel Memon of the Excise & Taxation department proposed Premium Number Plates for vehicles, estimating that they could generate between Rs2 to Rs3 billion per year if even 10% of motorists opt for them. These plates come in three categories: Platinum (with a base price of Rs 2 million), Gold (Rs 1 million), and Silver (Rs 50,000).
Additionally, the Cabinet approved Rs1.5 billion for the procurement of a Linear Accelerator for SUIT Sukkur, enhancing healthcare facilities in the region.
The deployment of Pakistan Rangers in Karachi was extended from June 13, 2024, to December 9, 2024, under the Anti-Terrorism ACT 1997.
The Cabinet also approved the release of Rs.10.189 billion for retired civil servants’ dues. Out of Rs36.842 billion accumulated outstanding amount, Rs21.558 billion was approved, out of which Rs11.369 billion was released.
