KARACHI: The election to appoint the next Sindh Chief Minister for the upcoming five-year term is scheduled to take place during the Sindh Assembly session on Monday, February 26th.
According to schedule issued by the provincial Assembly Secretariat, the process will commence with the issuance and submission of nomination papers on Sunday. Following the scrutiny of these papers, the final list of candidates will be displayed on the notice board until the evening.
The voting for the Chief Minister’s election is slated to begin around 11 a.m. on Monday, February 26th.
The Pakistan People’s Party, holding the majority in the Sindh Assembly, has already put forward Sayed Murad Ali Shah as its nominee for the Chief Minister’s position.
Earlier on Friday, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari nominated Syed Murad Ali Shah as the chief ministerial candidate for third time, alongside Syed Awais Shah as the Speaker and Naveed Anthony as the Deputy Speaker of the Sindh Assembly.
Speaking at the PPP Sindh’s Parliamentary party meeting held at Bilawal House, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that the provincial government will have to show improved performance, particularly in rehabilitating educational institutions damaged during the 2022 floods.
It is important to note that, with 114 members in the house, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) commands a dominating majority. The MQM comes in second with 36 seats, while the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) and Jamaat-e-Islami have smaller numbers with three and two seats, respectively. Eleven MPAs are supported by PTI.
