ISLAMABAD: The ruling allies told the Supreme Court (SC) on Friday that important progress had been made in the negotiations with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding holding elections on one date.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said, “Significant progress has been made since the dialogue process began. The coalition partners believe that political problems can best be resolved through negotiation and were ready to resume the same in the larger national interest”.

The statement said that “the committee further agreed the governments of caretaker should be in place at the federal and provincial levels for holding general elections justly, fairly and following law and to provide level playing field to the political leadership to actively join in the electoral process.”

Dar stated that “there is no agreement on the date of the dissolution of the National Assembly and Sindh and Balochistan assemblies and both committees had agreed earlier to resume negotiations after getting clearance from their respective leadership”.
