ISLAMABAD: The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) has officially approached the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking the allocation of reserved seats for women and minorities in the national and provincial assemblies.
The request comes in the wake of the PTI-backed independent candidates swelling the folds of the Sunni Ittehad Council.
Chairman of the SIC, Sahibzada Hamid Raza penned a formal letter to the ECP outlining the party’s plea for reserved seats based on specific quota. The written request was delivered to the ECP by a representative of the PTI.
The letter highlighted that a total of 86 independent returned candidates in the National Assembly, previously affiliated with the PTI, have now joined the Sunni Ittehad Council. Additionally, it notes that 107 independent members from the Punjab Assembly, 90 from the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and nine from the Sindh Assembly have aligned themselves with the SIC.
