LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has suspended the party membership of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi ahead of the expected merger of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and PML-Q.
Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Monday suspended the basic party membership of former Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Parvez Elahi after the reports of the expected merger of PML-Q and PTI.
A show-cause notice was served to Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, asking him to respond within a week.
Earlier in the day, Parvez Elahi summoned a meeting of the PML-Q to mull over PTI chairman Imran Khan’s offer to merge both political parties.
PTI-PML-Q merger
PML-Q senior leadership and senators would participate in the meeting to discuss a possible merger with PTI. Moonis Elahi, son of Parvez Elahi, is reportedly ready to merge his party into PTI, local media reported quoting sources. The reports added that the formal announcement is expected later today.
Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan had proposed that its ally, PML-Q, should merge with PTI ahead of the elections.
The former prime minister shared the proposal in a meeting with senior journalists at his Zaman Park residence last week.
