BEIJING: China executed Zhang Bo and Ye Chengchen on Wednesday for the gruesome act of throwing two young children out of a 15th-floor apartment building. The victims, a two-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy, were Zhang’s own children. The couple’s relationship began when Zhang, the children’s father, initiated an affair with Ye, who was unaware of his marital status and children.
The Chongqing No. 5 Intermediate People’s Court revealed that Ye convinced Zhang to kill his own children, considering them obstacles to their relationship and burdens on their future life together. The horrifying incident occurred in November 2020 when Zhang, in agreement with his wife for divorce, threw the children out of the window in their mother’s absence.

Both Zhang and Ye were found guilty of conspiring to stage an “accidental fall” to kill the children. The court sentenced them to death in December 2021, and the execution was carried out on Wednesday.
This case gained nationwide attention in China due to its cold-blooded premeditation and the young age of the victims. The executions sparked discussions on Chinese social media, with nearly 200 million views on Weibo. Many expressed satisfaction with the punishment, emphasizing that “the punishment fits the crime.”
