RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Rashid Ahmed on Monday expressed surprise over the silence adopted by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), a coalition partner of the government, on a current deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Taking to Twitter, the ex-interior minister said that the PPP hadn’t given any reaction to the deal, saying: “This means there is something wrong in it.”
He said that the government would impose an additional burden of Rs415 billion in taxes on inflation-hit people, fearing that prices of electricity, gas, and other commodities would go up from July 12, when the IMF will make a written announcement regarding the bailout package.
Calling the next 45 days crucial for the country’s economic stability and political future, Ahmed said that all eyes are on Pakistan as it is one of the most significant countries in the region.
Sheikh Rashid said that financial stability was linked to political stability.
He said the country’s survival did not lie with the 13 parties but with the nation.
