ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has proposed formation of a committee for resolution of political issues through talks, local media reported on Thursday. Shehbaz Sharif made the proposal to JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, while visiting the residence of the latter in Islamabad.
Inquiring after Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the PM appreciated JUI-F’s religious services. He said that the JUI-F Chief has always promoted peaceful struggle for the protection of democratic values in the country. Earlier upon arrival, Maulana Fazlur Rehman received the Prime Minister.
The development takes place as the federal government presented budget 2024-25 on Wednesday. Earlier, the PPP also expressed reservations over the budget and showed hesitation to attend the budget session yesterday.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that hat all the stakeholders including the allied political parties are being taken on board on the matter of privatization. He maintained that transactions about the privatization of PIA and outsourcing of Islamabad Airport will be completed by August. He stated that this will follow the outsourcing of Karachi and Lahore airports. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb was addressing a post-budget presser in Islamabad.
Some political experts said that the visit comes amid the current talks about political negotiations in the country. The opposition party PTI has also expressed its willingness for the talks to resolve the differences.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman on May 19, confirmed seeking guarantees from the PTI before joining the latter’s opposition alliance. In a joint press conference with PTI leaders after their meeting in Islamabad on May, 19 night, the leader of JUI-F said his party had not yet decided to join the opposition alliance, but admitted the current efforts to persuade it to do so.
