FEROZWALA: Pakistan’s Former Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, declared on Friday that Pakistan’s progress and development had been hindered when a party was imposed in power through rigged elections.
He was referring to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI), led by Imran Khan, which came to power as a result of the 2018 general elections but was ousted from power in April 2022 through a vote of no confidence. As a result, the government led by Shehbaz Sharif, part of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), took control. However, this transition led to Pakistan experiencing economic crises and rising inflation.
Addressing a PML-N rally in Ferozwala, Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan consistently witnessed development and progress during his party’s leadership.
He pointed out that there were conspiracies aimed at dividing Pakistan and that the political environment had been poisoned by opponents of Nawaz Sharif through a new model.
Shehbaz firmly believed that Nawaz Sharif could once again lead the country towards progress, citing the significant achievements during Nawaz Sharif’s previous terms.
He stressed that bringing back Nawaz Sharif was crucial if the nation aimed to combat poverty and unemployment effectively.
Reflecting on history, Shehbaz noted that Nawaz Sharif first became Prime Minister in 1990 and was later ousted during his second term by a coup d’état led by dictator Pervez Musharraf.
Achievements of Nawaz Sharif’s Previous Terms
During Nawaz Sharif’s third term in 2013, Shehbaz recalled a time when the country experienced severe power cuts of up to 20 hours. He credited Nawaz Sharif’s relentless efforts for resolving this crisis and stabilizing the power supply.
Shehbaz also highlighted how Nawaz Sharif provided relief to flood-affected people by offering shelter and assistance.
The PML-N President announced that Pakistan’s son, Nawaz Sharif, would return to the homeland on October 21. He urged the people to gather at Minar-e-Pakistan, the rally’s venue, to unite under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership.
He reaffirmed the party’s commitment to realizing Quaid’s vision for Pakistan under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership and promised that the three-time Prime Minister would provide laptops to the youth.
In response to critics, Shehbaz defended his government’s 16-month performance, emphasizing that the PML-N prioritized the nation’s welfare over political gains. He argued that had Pakistan defaulted, the situation would have worsened.
Shehbaz also expressed his concerns about ongoing brutalities and oppression in Palestine and Kashmir, calling for the freedom of people in both regions. He lamented the Israeli brutalities in Gaza against innocent Palestinians and called for an end to the bloodshed, highlighting the dire situation in the Gaza Strip due to Israel’s blockade, which had left its residents hungry and thirsty.
