KARACHI: Former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the president of PML-N, has expressed his commitment to addressing the challenges facing Karachi and implementing significant infrastructural changes if the city comes under the leadership of PML-N following the February 8 general elections.
Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Karachi to finalize an electoral alliance with MQM-P, aiming to jointly contest the upcoming polls in Sindh and strengthen local governments nationwide.
In a Press conference alongside MQM-P leaders, Shehbaz emphasized the achievements made through the partnership between PML-N and MQM-P during the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government.
He noted the enthusiasm of MQM-P leaders and highlighted that the upcoming elections would determine the country’s development path, urging political leadership to resolve challenges through mutual consultation.
Shehbaz Sharif, contesting from Karachi’s NA-242 constituency, challenged the notion of being a “ladla” (blue-eyed) leader, citing instances of challenges and arrests faced by PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif. He stressed the need for untiring efforts to ensure Karachi receives its due share, promising to end the water tanker mafia, develop public infrastructure, and empower the youth with technical skills for accelerated development.
Acknowledging Karachi’s status as the highest tax-paying city in Pakistan, Shehbaz praised residents for their honest living. He lamented the city’s past unrest, referring to target killings and extortion, and recalled Nawaz Sharif’s efforts in restoring peace during his tenure as prime minister in 1998. Shehbaz expressed confidence that Karachi’s fate would change through collaborative efforts, emphasizing the importance of teamwork in bringing about positive transformations.
