TASHKENT: Shavkat Mirziyoyev has been officially sworn in as the president of Uzbekistan in a ceremony held at the joint meeting of the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Uzbek Parliament. The event was broadcast live on national television, and it was attended by members of the Central Elections Commission, government officials, Constitutional Court judges, ambassadors, and local and foreign journalists.
During the inauguration ceremony at the Senate’s grand hall, the banner and emblem of the Uzbek president were displayed before the proceedings commenced. Zainiddin Nizamkhodjayev, the Chairman of the Central Elections Commission, announced that Mirziyoyev had been elected president in the early election held on July 9. He congratulated Mirziyoyev and presented him with the certificate of the president of Uzbekistan.
As part of the official swearing-in, Mirziyoyev placed his hand on the constitution and the Holy Quraan and took the oath, pledging to faithfully serve the people of Uzbekistan, uphold the Constitution and laws of the republic, protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, and diligently fulfill his presidential duties.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev Wins Uzbekistan’s Presidential Elections
The Uzbek Central Elections Commission announced on July 11 that Mirziyoyev had won the early presidential election with a landslide victory, securing 87.05% of the vote. The voter turnout was estimated to be 79.88%, with over 15.6 million people participating in the election. In the previous presidential election held in 2021, Mirziyoyev garnered 80.31% of the vote, with a turnout of 80.04%.
This election marks the first presidential election in Uzbekistan following the endorsement of constitutional amendments that extended the presidential term from five to seven years. Mirziyoyev will now embark on his new term as the president of Uzbekistan, leading the nation forward in its development and progress.
