SHARJAH: The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) announced the commentary team on Thursday for the upcoming T20I tri-series, which will feature UAE, Pakistan, and Afghanistan.
The tournament is set to begin on Friday. This tri-series, a vital dress rehearsal for the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup, blasts off under the lights on Friday, August 29, with Pakistan squaring off against Afghanistan in what promises to be an electrifying opener.
Star power
The ECB has unveiled a commentary panel rich in experience, insight, and star power. Pakistan’s cricketing greats Ramiz Raja, Aamir Sohail, Bazid Khan, and Salman Butt will bring their sharp analysis and deep understanding of the game to the microphone. They’ll be joined by Indian broadcaster and fan-favourite Neil Ojha, along with the energetic voice of sports commentator Ahmad Fareed, making this a truly cross-border blend of cricket intellect.
Originally slated as a bilateral series between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the tournament morphed into a tri-nation battle royale when the Pakistan Cricket Board proposed a broader format and a shift to UAE, giving teams a golden chance to adjust to conditions ahead of the Asia Cup, scheduled to run from September 9 to 28.
The tri-series will unfold entirely at the historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium, with matches beginning at 7pm local time. Each side will face the others twice in a round-robin format before the top two lock horns in the final on September 7.
Mix of youth and experience
Pakistan, led by Salman Ali Agha, will unleash a balanced mix of youth and experience. The likes of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Nawaz will look to fire with the ball, while explosive batters such as Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman aim to make their mark. Afghanistan, captained by superstar spinner Rashid Khan, brings its own arsenal, boasting power hitters like Rahmanullah Gurbaz and seasoned campaigners like Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
With Pakistan having edged Afghanistan 4-3 in past T20I clashes, this latest showdown is anyone’s game, and the UAE, riding the wave of home advantage, could very well be the dark horse of the tournament.
