  • The appointment comes amid PCB’s ongoing administrative restructuring, with Masood set to assist in planning tours, managing contracts, and overseeing international cricket operations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Test captain Shan Masood has been appointed as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) Consultant for International Cricket and Players’ Affairs, marking an unusual dual role for a current player.

In a brief statement, the PCB confirmed the appointment, highlighting Masood’s extensive international experience — 44 Tests, nine ODIs, and 19 T20Is — and his leadership in 14 Test matches, including a historic home series win over England in 2024.

The appointment comes as the PCB continues restructuring its administrative framework, following reported reshuffles involving the director of international cricket position, previously held by Usman Wahla. The board, however, has not clarified whether Masood’s role will overlap with or replace the director’s responsibilities.

As a consultant, Masood will assist in planning international cricket events, finalising tour agreements, coordinating logistics, managing player contracts, and ensuring compliance with ICC and PCB regulations.

His dual role as both an active Test captain and a senior administrative consultant represents a rare development in modern cricket, drawing attention across the sporting community.
