ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has issued a strong message to Afghanistan, urging its leadership to remember Pakistan’s decades-long support, sacrifices, and brotherly ties, amid rising border tensions and recent attacks.
Afridi expressed deep concern over recent developments, including attacks on Pakistan’s borders, saying these actions show that Afghanistan has seemingly forgotten the close brotherly ties shared between the two nations.

“Pakistan considered Afghan problems as its own,” Afridi stated, highlighting Pakistan’s longstanding humanitarian efforts. He recalled how Pakistan opened its doors to nearly four million Afghan refugees, providing shelter and support during times of crisis. Afridi also shared a personal commitment, revealing that he personally takes care of 350 Afghan families, underscoring the deep bonds between the people of both countries.
Expressing disappointment, Afridi said it was “very sad” that Afghanistan has overlooked Pakistan’s favours and sacrifices. He pointed out that recent border attacks by Afghan forces have forced Pakistan to respond firmly. Despite this, Afridi praised Pakistan’s restraint and appealed to Afghan authorities to act wisely to maintain regional peace and strengthen bilateral relations.
Afridi further warned against Afghanistan becoming a safe haven for groups supporting terrorism against Pakistan. In a statement on the social media platform X, he urged Afghanistan’s leadership to recognize Pakistan as an Islamic brother rather than a rival.
“Afghanistan should think, Pakistan is its Islamic brother. It should not be used by countries that support terrorists in Pakistan,” he emphasised.
