MUMBAI: Bollywood star, Shah Rukh Khan has become India’s top celebrity taxpayer in 2024, paying $10.87 million in taxes.
The actor, known as King Khan, in the entertainment industry surpassed Virat Kohli, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan to become the biggest celebrity taxpayer in the current year.
His achievement was fuelled by major hits like Pathaan and Jawan. Other notable taxpayers include Tamil star, Vijay with $9.46 million and Kareena Kapoor at $2.36 million. The tax figures are based on advance payments for the 2023-24 financial year.
Shah Rukh Khan’s tax contribution shows his immense earnings and solidifies his place as one of the highest-paid celebrities in India.
According to a list released by Fortune India, Shah Rukh Khan topped the list by paying $10.87 million in taxes, after a successful year with three major movie releases.
He was well ahead of the competition, with Tamil star Vijay (Thalapathy) in second place, paying $9.46 million. Salman Khan paid $8.87 million, Amitabh Bachchan paid $8.39 million, and Virat Kohli paid $7.80 million. The highest-ranking female celebrity on the list was Kareena Kapoor, who paid $2.36 million in taxes.
The year 2023-24 saw massive success for both Shah Rukh Khan and Vijay. Shah Rukh made a return to Bollywood in January 2023 with Pathaan, which grossed over $118 million worldwide.
His other release Jawan performed even better at the box office, earning $140 million. Though his final release of the year, Dunki, wasn’t as huge, it still grossed over $47.29 million. These earnings made Shah Rukh the highest-paid actor in India in nearly a decade.
