Shah Mehmood, Other PTI Leaders Arrested for ‘Inciting Violence’: ICT Police

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) police on Thursday said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including its Vice-President Shah Mehmood Qureshi, were arrested for “inciting arson and violent protests under a plan to sabotage peace”.

Shah Mehmood was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday. PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry, Asad Umar, Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, Falknaz Chitrali, Malika Bukhari and Musrat Jamsheed Cheema have been arrested.

The ICT police said the arrests were made in compliance with legal requirements, warning that “more arrests are expected”.

The capital police said, “avoid spreading rumours and incitement in public.”

A day earlier, Fawad Chaudhry was apprehended by the Islamabad police as he emerged from the Supreme Court building, where he had sought refuge for over 12 hours to evade his impending arrest.

Secretary General of PTI Asad Umar was also arrested from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) premises on Wednesday. Umar was reportedly arrested by the police from the gate near the IHC’s writ branch.

Ex-Punjab governor Omar Sarfaraz Cheema was arrested during the wee hours of Wednesday morning in the raid at his house by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Punjab.
