KARACHI: Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan strongly defended the Pakistan Super League (PSL) during a post-match press conference on Sunday, after his team’s six-wicket victory over Karachi Kings at the National Bank Cricket Stadium.

When questioned about the PSL’s influence on Pakistan cricket, particularly regarding some players failing to deliver at the international level despite impressive performances in the league, Shadab gave a candid and impassioned reply.

“Our finest local talent competes in the PSL. That means those who fail to perform—or don’t even feature in the PSL—are considered of an even lower standard. So, how can that be a fair comparison? As a nation, we’re overly judgmental; it’s something we must move past,” Shadab remarked.

Unbeaten team

Islamabad United extended their unbeaten run in the tournament with a convincing performance against Karachi Kings.

Chasing a modest target of 129, the three-time PSL champions reached their goal in 17.1 overs, securing their fourth successive win.

Shadab Khan led by example with a composed knock of 47 from 40 balls, providing stability during the chase.

He was ably supported by Sahibzada Farhan, who struck a brisk 30 off 18 deliveries, and Azam Khan, who added 31.

Earlier, Karachi Kings managed 128 for 7 in their 20 overs. Tim Seifert top-scored with 30, but the side struggled against Islamabad’s disciplined bowling.

Shadab impressed with figures of 2 for 17, while Imad Wasim (1 for 17) and Naseem Shah (2 for 29) also made key contributions.

With this victory, Islamabad United remain top of the PSL 10 table, boasting 8 points from 4 matches.

In excellent form, they are set to face Multan Sultans next on 23 April at the Multan Cricket Stadium.
