Shab-e-Meraj Being Observed Tonight with Reverence Across Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: To commemorate the religious festival Shab-e-Meraj, Muslims across the subcontinent, including Pakistan, will be observed tonight (Wednesday) with great devotion and reverence. As per the lunar calendar, the sacred day was observed in the Middle East and other European countries yesterday by the Muslims. 

On this special night, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) ascended to the highest levels of the heavens, whereas he was also taken from Al-Haram mosque Makkah to Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem on a heavenly animal named Al-Buraq.

The incident is also narrated in the holy book of the Quran, and it holds great reverence and respect in Islam. According to the Islamic calendar, Shab-e-Meraj is observed every year on the 27th of Rajab.

Accordingly, the command to offer prayers (Salat) five times a day was also given to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) on this special night. In addition, the Holy Prophet also met many other prophets (messengers of God) during the sacred journey and led a prayer at Al Aqsa mosque.

Observing Shab-e-Meraj

To hour the night, Muslims across the world offer special prayers in mosques to seek Allah’s forgiveness and blessings. As usual, Muslims will observe the night with the same zeal and obligations. In addition, religious scholars also comprehensively discuss and throw light on Meraj’s special occasion in the mosques.
