SFIC Apex Committee Reviewed Economic Progress in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: The Apex Committee of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SFIC), mandated to frame economic policies and attract investment in Pakistan, met with Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in the chair to review its progress.

The SFIC 6th meeting of its Apex Committee was attended by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, members of the Federal Cabinet, Provincial Chief Ministers, and high-level government officials.

During the meeting, the ministries briefed the forum on practical steps taken in the past month to enhance the business and investment environment in the country. The Committee also addressed significant macroeconomic issues impacting the investment climate, including delays in restructuring and privatization of financially burdened State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

Consensus on Privatization Process in Pakistan

The Committee reached a consensus on expediting the privatization process, aiming to reduce recurring losses to the national exchequer, and expressed overall satisfaction with ongoing negotiations with foreign and domestic investors to capitalize on various investment opportunities.

The Prime Minister commended the efforts of various ministries and departments and emphasized the importance of a ‘Whole of the Government’ approach to overcome the economic challenges facing Pakistan.

The Chief of Army Staff reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Pakistan Army to support the government’s endeavors for a sustainable path towards economic recovery.
