ISLAMABAD/CHICAGO:  Several states of the United States from west into the midwest and northern plains have been facing blizzards, brutal cold, and record-heavy snowfall, making road travel treacherous and disrupting air travel.

As massive winter storm spreading across several states brought routine life to a standstill, the National Weather Service issued heavy winter storms, blizzards, and high-wind adviseries for a broad swath of western and north-central states.

Up to two feet of snow and winds of up to 60 miles per hour were expected in some spots from Tuesday through Thursday.

Heavy snowfall

Snow falling at two inches an hour and gusty winds could make travel conditions treacherous and perhaps impossible in parts of the Upper Midwest and Northern Plains, the service said in its forecast.

“Snowplow crews would be out working statewide, but this storm could be a doozy,” the Minnesota Department of Transportation tweeted.

While much of the United States would grapple with cold, snowy weather over the next several days, parts of the South may, by contrast, see record-high temperatures this week.
