LAHORE: Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi cautioned on Monday that there are individuals plotting to replicate the events of May 9.
He underscored that intelligence agencies possess evidence of such intentions. Addressing reporters in Lahore, Naqvi disclosed that intelligence agencies have intercepted conversations among these groups, emphasizing that any attempt to mirror the violence of May 9 would be met with a robust response.
Naqvi urged those discontented with the February 8 election outcomes to pursue their grievances through the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), affirming the government’s commitment to preventing a recurrence of the May 9 incidents.
While acknowledging the right to peaceful political protest, Naqvi condemned violent actions, emphasizing the government’s stance against further dividing the nation. He pointed out that despite the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) significant success in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and substantial presence in Punjab, the party continues to allege electoral fraud, despite earlier resorting to attacks on military and government targets following the arrest of their party leader.
