Seven Dead, One Missing as Typhoon Trami Hits Southern China

HAIKOU: At least seven people have died and one person is missing as Typhoon Trami wreaks havoc in Hainan, southern China, prompting mass evacuations and an extensive emergency response.

According to the provincial emergency management authorities on Wednesday, As the 20th typhoon of the year, Trami has brought heavy rainfall to many areas of Hainan since October 28, prompting the evacuation of over 40,000 residents.

In response to the ongoing flooding impacts from Typhoon Trami, the Ministry of Water Resources issued a Level-IV emergency response on Wednesday. Qionghai, one of the most severely affected regions, has been under the highest level of emergency alert for flood and wind control since late Tuesday.

Most regions in Hainan are expected to face torrential rain on Wednesday, with a significant risk of flash floods, particularly along the Wanquan River, which may exceed warning levels. The ministry has deployed a working group to the frontline to oversee flood response efforts, emphasizing the evacuation of individuals in high-risk areas.

China’s emergency response system operates on a four-tier scale, with Level I representing the most critical situation.
