ISLAMABAD: Serena Hotels, a prominent hospitality group, paid tribute to the Pakistani Special Olympics team that achieved exceptional success at the recent Special Olympics held in Berlin, Germany, from June 17 to 25, 2023.
The event marked a historic moment as Serena Hotels extended its support to the athletes through its Sports Diplomacy initiative. The Pakistani team secured a total of 80 medals, an impressive haul comprising 11 gold, 29 silver, and 40 bronze medals. This accomplishment garnered praise from 176 participating nations, reflecting the pride and honor brought to Pakistan by these outstanding athletes.
Remarkable Achievements of Pakistani Special Olympics Team
Ms. Ronak Lakhani, the head of the Pakistani delegation and chairperson of Special Olympics Pakistan, expressed gratitude and commendation for the remarkable achievements of the athletes. She attributed their victories to their unwavering dedication and preparation for this significant global event. Lakhani acknowledged the efforts of coaches, partners, and parents in shaping the success of the athletes. She particularly highlighted Serena Hotels’ role in spotlighting the achievements of these unique athletes, underscoring the importance of such recognition in enhancing their self-confidence.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Haseeb Abbasi, the Sargent Shriver International Global Messenger (SSIGM) Athlete Leader 2019–2023 for Special Olympics Pakistan and an esteemed motivational speaker, shared his inspiring journey. Abbasi, a gold medalist in cycling at the 2013 Special Olympics Asia Pacific Regional games, recounted his transformational path, which culminated in a TEDx Talk at the age of 17. Today, he continues to inspire others through his motivational messages and web channel dedicated to spreading positivity and encouragement among individuals with special needs.
