ISLAMABAD/SERBIA: The Serbian military said it is at its “highest level of combat readiness” after weeks of escalating tensions between Kosovo and Serbia.

President Aleksandar Vucic said that he had taken all measures to protect our people and preserve Serbia.

The sabre-rattling has louder than ever and follows media claims that Pristina is preparing “an attack” on ethnic Serb places in north Kosovo.

The government in Pristina had not commented on the allegations.

But it has been previously accused of Mr. Vucic of playing “games” to stir up trouble and European Union has been attempting to mediate.

27-Member Bloc Avoid the Tensions

The 27-member bloc has called for maximum restraint and immediate action and the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo to contribute to the political solution personally.

Serbia has refused to recognise Kosovo as an independent state.

Kosovo, which has an overwhelmingly ethnic Albanian majority, broke away from Serbia after a war in 1998-99.

NATO, peacekeeping troops in Kosovo, has called on all parties to avoid provocations or tensions. The EU has warned it could not tolerate attacks on EU police or criminal acts.
