Seoul, Washington Plan to Hold Nuclear Tabletop Exercises to Deter Pyongyang

ISLAMABAD: South Korea’s defense minister on Wednesday disclosed that Seoul and Washington plan to hold tabletop exercises in a bid to study North’s nuclear threats. The allies will be making use of verbal simulation of the American deterrence effort in the effort.

In 2022, Pyongyang launched an unprecedented number of missiles. In light of this, US officials believe North Korea could be preparing to test a nuclear device. This would be its since 2017.

Tabletop exercises to simulate nuclear attacks by Pyongyang

So far, the timing of the exercises has not been finalized. However, officials in both capitals stated they were in talks to boost combined nuclear planning and believed there was a need to improve this by launching simulation exercises.

Lee Jong-sup, South Korea’s defense minister, speaking at a press meeting after President Yppn Suk-yeol’s New Year policy briefing said that the two countries planned “tabletop exercises” in February to study the scenario of nuclear attacks by North Korea.
