BEIRUT: Senior Hamas official Saleh Al-Arouri has been killed in an Israeli drone airstrike in the southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, on Tuesday, Lebanon’s state news agency reported.
Al-Manar television station of Hezbollah said that the incident triggered an explosion near the Hadi Nasrallah highway, close to a road junction. While details of the explosion remain unclear, Reuters reported it might be linked to a drone strike on the second floor of a building in the densely populated neighborhood.
Ongoing hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel along Lebanon’s southern border have led to frequent exchanges of fire, resulting in casualties on both sides.
More than 100 Hezbollah fighters and nearly two dozen civilians, including children, elderly, and several journalists, have been killed in Israeli air strikes and shelling.
