ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Acting President Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani visited the Iranian Embassy in Islamabad on Tuesday to extend his condolences to Iran and its people following the tragic martyrdom of President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and their companions.
During his visit, Gilani signed the condolence book opened in honor of the deceased Iranian officials. The visit underscored the solidarity between Pakistan and Iran in this time of grief.
He described the tragic death of the Iranian President as a significant loss for the Islamic world. He emphasized that President Raisi was a noble soul, a scholar, and a great friend of Pakistan, noting that the Muslim world had lost a remarkable leader.
In a conversation with Iranian Ambassador Reza Amiri Moghadam, the Acting President stated that Pakistan and Iran shared excellent relations grounded in historical, cultural, and literary ties. He suggested that both countries should enhance people-to-people contacts and parliamentary exchanges to further strengthen their brotherly bond.
The Iranian Ambassador affirmed that Pakistan and Iran enjoyed excellent relations and that fostering ties with Pakistan was a key aspect of Iran’s foreign policy. He mentioned that the Supreme Leader of Iran placed significant importance on improving relations with Pakistan, noting that the recent visit of the late President Raisi was aligned with this goal.
The Ambassador expressed gratitude to the people and government of Pakistan for their messages and sentiments, acknowledging the shared grief of the Iranian people.
