ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Education Monday approved a bill for the restoration of student organizations in the federal educational institutions.
Ifran Siddiqui presided over the Committee meeting and approved the bill for the restoration of student organizations at the federal universities and colleges. The participants of the meeting considered the bill for the legislation on the student unions in the federal capital and passed it.
The chairman committee, however, expressed displeasure over the absence of secretary education and minister for education and warned them to attend the meetings in future otherwise they will have to ‘face the consequences’.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui was of the view that student unions played a major role in the political training of the students in the past. Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi emphasized that the purpose of the bill is to provide protection and prevent the students from being blackmailed.
Senator Irfan Siddique, however, expressed concern over the rise in regional-based organizations trend in educational institutions due to ban on student unions, which he said poses potential dangers. The bill will now be put before the house for approval.
