KARACHI: A security guard named Akhtar Nawaz has been appointed as a visiting lecturer at the University of Karachi (UoK) after completing his Masters of Philosophy (MPhil) at the same university where he was working as a security guard.
According to 35-year-old Akhtar Nawaz, he completed his MPhil coursework during the day while he was on duty at night. He said that his research thesis for the MPhil was about the hurdles the government and law enforcement agencies faced in trying to control street crimes. He has plans to do a Ph.D.
Akhter Nawaz while giving an interview to a news channel said that he gained much confidence after studying at university that he even wrote a letter to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government about the water shortage issue in his hometown.
‘’I may have neglected his responsibility towards his family for the time being by focusing on his studies and taking night shift duties. Still, he aims to prioritize his family’s needs since he could not have achieved his goals without their support,’’ he added.
He said that he was given night shift duty at his request because he wanted to focus on his studies during the day. He said that to achieve goals, we have to provide some sacrifices.
