SECP Registers 2,374 New Companies in December 2022

ISLAMABAD: The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has registered 2,374 new companies in December 2022.

The total number of registered companies at the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan now stands at 183,744. The total paid-up capital of these companies for the current month stands at Rs 4.1 billion.

Foreign investment has been recorded in 85 new companies. These companies have foreign investors from China, Egypt, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Austria, Australia, Bangladesh, Germany, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Lebanon, South Africa, Spain, Malaysia, Romania, Russia, Sweden, UK, USA, Switzerland, Turkey, and Vietnam. The major chunk of investment came from China with 48 companies, Afghanistan, the UK and the US with four each, Germany with 5, Iran and South Africa with 2 each and 16 companies with other countries.

In December 2022, nearly 41 percent were registered as single-member companies while 56 percent of the companies were registered as private limited companies. The remaining 3 percent were registered as public unlisted companies, foreign companies, not-for-profit associations, and limited liability partnerships. Nearly 99.8 percent of the companies were registered online.

The construction and real estate development sector took the lead with the incorporation of 427, information technology with 329, tourism with 104, e-commerce with 82, food & beverages with 89, corporate agricultural farming with 63, trading with 292, services with 218, education with 107, textile and mining & quarrying with 55 each, marketing & advertisement with 50, pharmaceutical with 51, and 452 companies were registered in other sectors.

SECP integration 

As a result of the integration of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan with various provincial departments and FBR, 2,172 companies were registered with FBR for the generation of NTN, 34 companies with PESSI/SESSI, 60 companies with EOBI, and 37 companies with the excise and taxation department. The SECP has also initiated a dedicated WhatsApp facility for receiving queries.
