CYPRUS: A second cargo of food aid, weighing 240 tonnes, was prepared to depart from Cyprus to Gaza, following the successful arrival of the first aid shipment in the besieged Palestinian enclave overnight.

The aid route aims to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, which has been devastated by five months of conflict.

Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides announced that the first ship, carrying almost 200 tonnes of food, had begun its return journey to Cyprus, signaling the readiness to dispatch the second vessel. The second ship, loaded with essential aid supplies, including pallets of canned goods and bulk products, was moored at Larnaca port, awaiting clearance to sail to Gaza.

The aid mission was organized by the US-based charity World Central Kitchen (WCK), in collaboration with the UAE and Spanish charity Open Arms, with support from the Cypriot government. The initiative underscores the international community’s efforts to provide crucial assistance to the people of Gaza amid ongoing humanitarian challenges.

As Gaza continues to grapple with severe shortages of food and basic necessities due to the conflict, the arrival of additional aid shipments offers a glimmer of hope for the residents of the enclave. However, sustained efforts and continued support are needed to address the long-term needs of the population and rebuild Gaza’s infrastructure.
