NEW DELHI:A cheetah, brought to India from Africa, died in Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh state.
This was the second cheetah that died in India in less than a month.

Forest officials said that the cause of the death of the six-year-old male animal could not be ascertained immediately, according to the BBC.
It was one of 12 large cats that had been brought to India from South Africa in February this year.

India reintroduced cheetahs last year almost more than 70 years after the cheetah was officially declared extinct in the country. On March 27, a female cheetah that was part of the first batch of cheetahs brought from Namibia died of a suspected kidney failure.

The reintroduction of the animal in India had generated excitement and any news related to them make headlines.Eight Namibian cheetahs including five males and three females were transported to India last year amid much fanfare.

At least 12 more cheetahs were brought to the country from South Africa in February. They were first kept in a controlled quarantine zone at the park in Kuno before they were released into the wild. A team of forest officials and doctors had been tracking and monitoring their movements.

India also welcomed the birth of four cheetah cubs on March 29. They were born to one of the Namibian females.
