BEIJING: The Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Zhang Ming, called on Ghada Waly, the Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Director-General of the UN Office in Vienna.

During the meeting, both parties discussed the potential avenues for enhancing collaboration between the SCO and the UN in the fight against the illegal trade of narcotic drugs and their precursors, said the SCO Secretariat on Friday.

Zhang Ming apprised the Director-General of the SCO’s specialized mechanisms and underscored the organization’s steadfast commitment to the three principal UN conventions that underpin the global drug control framework.

Ghada Waly outlined UNODC’s key objectives in countering drug-related issues and shared details about the office’s ongoing initiatives and long-term strategies.

Furthermore, they reached on consensus to explore the possibility of hosting the next high-level joint meeting between the SCO and UNODC in Vienna.
