MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed Russia’s determination to counter sanctions imposed by Western countries and resist external pressure in response to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine.
During his televised address to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) on Tuesday, the Russian leader expressed gratitude to SCO members for their support during a recent brief rebellion led by the Wagner mercenary group.
President Putin stated, “Russia is confidently resisting and will continue to resist external pressure, sanctions, and provocations,” referring to the sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union in response to Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. The comprehensive sanctions regime has compelled Russia to seek alternative economic partnerships, particularly in Asian markets, for its energy exports.

Putin’s remarks at the SCO meeting underscore Russia’s resolve to resist external pressure and pursue its national interests, despite the challenging geopolitical landscape.
