ISLAMABAD:   Islamabad is all set to host the SCO Summit on October 15 and 16 with major foreign leaders to attend the event. Pakistani authorities are taking steps to further  enhance the beauty of Islamabad as the city will host the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.  Pakistan currently holds the rotating Chairmanship of the SCO-CHG, which is the regional organization’s second-highest decision-making plat forum.

In July this year, Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that the SCO summit would feature a ministerial huddle along with multiple meetings of top officials to foster cooperation in economics, finance, socio-cultural affairs and humanitarian efforts among member nations.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister has also issued the directives to take every possible step to enhance  the beauty of Islamabad as the city will host the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

Mohsin Naqvi has directed authorities to ensure all arrangements are in place for the high-profile event in Islamabad. He emphasized the significance of beautifying key areas, especially the VIP routes.

He also instructed that Islamabad be decorated with flowers and fancy lights to present a welcoming image to international delegates.

Who will attend the SCO Summit?

Leaders from across the Eurasian region, including the Chinese and Russian prime ministers, are expected to attend the two-day summit in Islamabad.  Indian Minister for External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will also travel to Islamabad to attend the summit. This marks the first visit by an Indian foreign minister to Pakistan in about nine years.

The SCO, an influential Eurasian political, economic, and security alliance, was set up in 2001 by China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.  The organization has since expanded to include Pakistan, India, and Iran as full members, while Afghanistan, Mongolia, and Belarus hold observer status.

The federal government has also declared a three-day public holiday in Islamabad and Rawalpindi to ensure the smooth conduct of the next Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
