SCO Summit: Pakistan PM Raises Israel’s Genocide Against Palestinians

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday told the leaders of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries that the world should fulfill its responsibility of ensuring an unconditional and immediate truce leading to the establishment of an independent state of Palestine.

“Let me say that we cannot overlook the current genocide in the Gaza Strip. The world bears the responsibility of ensuring an immediate and unconditional truce leading to the establishment of State of Palestine on the basis of pre-1967 borders with Al Quds as its capital,” Shehbaz Sharif said in his concluding remarks at the 23rd meeting of the Council of the Heads of Government (CHG) of the member states of the SCO chaired by him.

Russia Assumes Chairmanship of the Council

He said that the SCO meeting highlighted the resolve of the member states for a better and sustainable future for the upcoming generations.  The PM congratulated Russia’s Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on assuming the chairmanship of the Council and announced that the next meeting would be held in Russia next year.

Shehbaz Sharif also assured the Russian PM of Islamabad’s complete support and reiterated unwavering resolve to SCO goals and objectives.  He also urged the member nations to prioritize the collaboration over the political differences and collaborate to resolve the common challenges and work hand-in-hand to ensure that SCO remained the beacon of stability, progress and development for the mutual benefit for the people in the region.

Before concluding the two-day summit, he also thanked the participating nations for their resolve and support to ensure the smooth conduct of the summit.

The mega event was attended by the leaders from the SCO member nations including China’s Premier Li Qiang, Prime Minister of Belarus Roman Golovchenko, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, Tajik Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda, Trade Minister of Iran Seyyed Mohammad Atabek, Kyrgyzstan’s Chairman of Ministers’ Cabinet Zhaparov Akylbek, and Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

Besides, Mongolia also attended the summit as an Observer State being represented by Prime Minister Oyun-Erdene Luvsannamsrai and Turkmenistan as a Special Guest represented by Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Rashid Meredov.
