SCO Summit Focuses on Multilateral Jurisprudence Cooperation

BEIJING: Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Zhang Ming, emphasized the integral role of multilateral cooperation in jurisprudence and legal proceedings within the SCO’s agenda. Zhang Ming said that cooperation serves as a crucial guarantee for strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations among member countries and facilitating effective interaction among them.

Secretary General made these remarks during his address at the 10th meeting of SCO Ministers of Justice, held in Shanghai under the chairmanship of China. The meeting was attended by justice ministers from all member states, including Iran, which recently joined the organization, the SCO Secretariat said in a statement issued on Friday.

On this occasion, Zhang Ming expressed his sincere gratitude to China’s President for his greetings and highlighted that despite the region and the international community facing new threats and challenges, the SCO continued to develop. This demonstrated the vitality of the principles of the “Shanghai Spirit” and the significant potential of the SCO.

Commitment to SCO Legal Cooperation

He emphasized the importance of utilizing this historical opportunity to advance cooperation in jurisprudence and legal proceedings, leading to substantial outcomes and elevating cooperation within the SCO to new heights.

The meeting was opened by Chinese Minister of Justice He Rong, with greetings from President of China Xi Jinping conveyed by Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, Chen Wenqing. The opening ceremony was attended by Chen Jining, Head of the Shanghai City Committee of the Chinese Communist Party.

During the meeting, various topics were discussed, including law development, legal services, forensic expertise, and access to legal information.

The 11th meeting of SCO Ministers of Justice is scheduled to take place in Kazakhstan in 2024.
