SC to Hear Plea Regarding Feb 8 Elections on Monday

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has fixed a plea regarding Feb 8 general elections for hearing, local media reported on Friday. A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justices Mussarat Hilali and Muhammad Ali Mazhar, will take up the petition on Monday.

Filed by a citizen named Ali Khan, the petition pleas the Apex Court to order new polls within 30 days to ensure fairness, transparency and accountability”. The petitioner urged the SC to order a probe into allegations of rigging in the elections.

SC to Hear Plea Regarding Feb 8 Elections on Monday

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the federal government have been made respondents in the case. The Election Commission of Pakistan announced the complete results of the Feb 8 polls in Pakistan and the now political parties are holding political consultation to form the new government. PML-N nominated former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as its candidate for the slot of PM while PTI named Omar Ayub as candidate for PM position.

Similarly, consultations are underway between the political parties to form government in all provinces of the country.
