ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan of Wednesday served notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan in a petition filed by Pakistan Tehrteek-e-Insaf (PTI)chairman Imran Khan and head of Awami League Shiekh Rasheed Ahmed regarding the right to vote to the overseas Pakistanis.

The apex court also served notices to the attorney general and Nadra for assistance in the case.

A 3-member bench headed by Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan heard the case. He remarked whether overseas Pakistani had to come to the country to cast their votes or they were entitled to vote-casting from abroad.

Difficult vote-casting method for overseas Pakistanis

He said that it seemed that the vote-casting method had been made difficult for overseas Pakistanis. The right to vote was given but the method was made difficult.

The lawyer, representing the petitioner, argued that the amendment in the Election Act was against the spirit of the verdict of the court and was a violation. The NADRA prepared a system and experimented with it in the polls, in compliance with the court orders.

The court adjourned further hearing for two weeks.
