NEW DELHI: A group of men threw ink and pasted pro-Israel posters at the residence of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi in New Delhi, which led to the Hyderabad MP questioning Indian Home Minister Amit Shah and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla about the safety of parliamentarians. Owaisi has shared a video showing ink smeared on the nameplate of his home in Delhi.
“Some ‘unknown miscreants’ vandalized my house with black ink today. I have now lost count of the number of times my Delhi residence has been targeted. When I asked Delhi Police officials how this was happening right under their nose, they expressed helplessness,” Owaisi posted on social media, formerly known as twitter.
Owaisi, who retained his Hyderabad seat and won by a margin of more than 3.3 lakh votes from the Lok Sabha constituency, has faced criticism from the BJP for expressing solidarity with people of Palestine while taking his oath. His remarks were later expunged from the Lok Sabha record.
He wrote, “@AmitShah this is happening under your oversight. @ombirlakota, please tell us if MPs’ safety will be guaranteed or not. To the two-bit goons who keep targeting my house: this does not scare me. Stop this Savarkar-type cowardly behaviour and be men enough to face me. Do not scurry away after throwing some ink or pelting a few stones,”.
A group of five men had pasted posters outside Owaisi’s residence with slogans such as ‘I stand with Israel’, and ‘Owaisi should be suspended’.
