JEDDAH: In a captivating fusion of contemporary aviation technology and nostalgia, Saudi Arabian Airlines, popularly known as Saudia, unveiled a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner adorned with the airline’s iconic 1980s design. This visually striking aircraft took to the Kingdom’s skies as it made its triumphant return from the United States to its homeland on Tuesday.
Piloted by Capt. Ali Al-Shehri, Flight SV9014 embarked on a journey that commenced from Everett, Washington in the United States, en route to its destination at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
In a video addressing aviation enthusiasts, Capt. Ali Al-Shehri highlighted the notable features of the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. He noted that the aircraft boasts a lighter weight compared to the 787-9 model, as well as distinct interior elements. The advancements translate to improved fuel efficiency and the capacity to accommodate over 50 additional passengers, enhancing the overall travel experience.
Capt. Mohammed Al-Shyban, another pilot with Saudia, shared real-time updates about the flight’s departure and arrival on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). Saudia’s Remarkable Flight
One such dedicated aviation photographer, Ahmad Al-Yamani, played an integral role in capturing the essence of this remarkable event. Al-Yamani’s photographs not only chronicle the flight’s journey but also tap into a wellspring of nostalgia within the Saudi community.
Reflecting on his passion for aviation photography, Al-Yamani shared, “My profound passion for aviation has been deeply rooted for a significant period. While my childhood aspirations leaned toward becoming a pilot, my journey led me to capturing images of airplanes, marrying my love for aviation and photography.”
The iconic emblem of Saudia, representing the nation’s culture and heritage, has evolved over the airline’s history. Adjustments to the logo have corresponded with shifts in the airline’s scope and operations. Notably, during the 1980s, as Saudia diversified into various sectors such as catering and commerce, the logo’s design evolved to mirror the company’s transformation. The English lettering was coupled with elements reminiscent of Arabic script, while the color palette reflected varying shades of blue and green.
The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner adorned with the distinctive 1980s livery serves as a captivating embodiment of Saudia’s legacy and forward momentum. This momentous flight stands as a testament to Saudia’s commitment to innovation, while simultaneously paying homage to its rich heritage and evoking a sense of nostalgia among its passengers and admirers.
