MADINAH: The Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) has unveiled an operational plan to handle emergencies during the holy month of Ramadan in the Prophet’s Mosque.

The authority will provide comprehensive emergency medical services for visitors at the Mosque in Ramadan season, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Friday.

The plan includes the deployment of 10 operational sectors, supported by 472 specialists and a fleet of 97 ambulance units, including motorcycles, electric vehicles, and golf carts to enable rapid response.

To ensure swift intervention in high-density areas, the SRCA has also activated air ambulance services and specialized disaster-response vehicles.

These efforts are reinforced by 1,500 trained volunteers working around the clock across Madinah’s major mosques.

Ramadan is the holiest month in Islam and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a period of fasting, prayer, reflection, and spiritual growth.

It takes place in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which means its dates change every year, moving about 10 to 11 days earlier in the Gregorian calendar.

During Ramadan, adult Muslims fast daily from dawn to sunset. This fast involves abstaining from eating, drinking, and smoking during daylight hours.

The fast is broken each evening with a meal known as iftar, while a pre-dawn meal called suhoor is eaten before fasting begins.
