JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s HMS Al-Jubail naval vessel arrived at the King Faisal Naval Base in Jeddah on Wednesday, carrying 22 people of different nationalities who sought refuge from the unrest in Sudan. The Ministry of Defense reported that the latest contingent included seven Saudi citizens, eight Chinese, six Sudanese, and a Kuwaiti.

Brig. Gen. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, emphasized that the government does not distinguish between nationalities and will serve anyone who meets the requirements for evacuation. He added that there were more priority cases to be evacuated, particularly women, children, and the elderly.

The people onboard the naval vessel arrived safely in the Kingdom and were provided with assistance and support by Saudi authorities. Among the evacuees were also members of the media who were covering the events in Sudan.

Saudi Arabia’s Sudan evacuation operation

The Saudi government has been conducting evacuation operations for its citizens and other nationals since the political crisis erupted in Sudan in 2019. The crisis has led to violent clashes and instability in the country, prompting many to seek refuge abroad.

Saudi Arabia has been actively involved in providing humanitarian aid to the Sudanese people and supporting efforts to restore peace and stability in the country. The Kingdom has also called for an end to the violence and for a peaceful resolution to the crisis through dialogue and negotiations.

The evacuation operations are part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to support its citizens and other nationals and to provide them with a safe haven amid the unrest in Sudan. The Saudi government has been working closely with the Sudanese authorities and other international partners to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected by the crisis.
