Under regional cooperation, the two nations released joint statements via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday asking the Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to continue dialogue to reach a deal on extending the truce that is set to end at 9:45 p.m. Sudan time on May 29.

The two sides became facilitators of a call to the truce on May 6 and lauded the start of pre-negotiation dialogue in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

In the first week of the current month, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, Saud Al-Sati, also received the new US envoy to discuss bilateral ties, and regional and global developments.

On April 27 US Ambassador Michael Ratney formally presented his credentials to Saudi officials.

The new envoy was appointed by US President Biden, and the American Senate confirmed him as the envoy to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on March 14.

At the time of his nomination in March, Ratney said he was committed to a “strong and sustainable US-Saudi partnership that advances US interests and reflects US values.”

Ratney had served at the US Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute and worked as the charge d’affaires at the US Embassy in Jerusalem. He also worked as the US special Ambassador for Syria.
