Saudi Minister for Commerce Affairs Concludes Visit to UK to Enhance Economic Ties

LONDON: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s (KSA) Minister for Commerce Affairs Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi held a number of meetings with the UK ministers and heads of major firms in London aimed at boosting economic and trade partnership between the two nations, Arab media reported on Saturday.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, during his trip, he met with Minister of Trade and Business Kimi Badinosh, Minister of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Grant Shapps, Minister of State for Middle East, North African Affairs Lord Tariq Ahmed, Minister of State at the Department of Education Nick Gibb and Minister of Investment Dominic Johnson.

Saudi envoy to the UK Prince Khalid bin Bandar, CEO of the National Competitiveness Center Dr. Iman bint Habbas Al-Mutairi and Deputy Minister of Commerce were also present during the meetings.

Saudi Minister for Commerce Affairs also held talks with Adviser to the British PM for business and investment Frank Petitgas, Undersecretary of the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology Viscount Camrose, the PM’s special representative for education, Sir Steve Smith, and Chief Executive Officer of the British Accreditation Authority Matt Gantley.

The meetings discussed the programs and strategies of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to increase business opportunities and investments between Riyadh and London and encourage British firms to expand their businesses in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The two sides also discussed means to encourage and finance the new and emerging firms to enter promising sectors of research and innovation and reviewed the UK expertise in developing entrepreneurship.

Minister for Commerce Affairs Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi also held talks with key leaders of the British business sector, including Chief Executive Officer of Rolls-Royce Tufan Erginbilgic, and attended a dialogue session with members of the Asian House, a think-tank concerned with promoting trade between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

The Saudi delegation also visited Dulwich College and was briefed on the UK practices and expertise in the education sector.

The minister’s trip to London coincided with the 3rd meeting of the Economic and Social Committee of the Saudi-British Strategic Partnership Council, which convened in London.

The platform, which comprised 45 officials from twenty-two government, non-profit and private departments, was organized by the Joint Saudi-British Business Council, the National Competitiveness Center, and the Federation of Saudi Chambers.

The Central Bank of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), the Mohammed bin Salman “Misk” Foundation, the Public Investment Fund, the Federation of Saudi Chambers, the joint Saudi-British Business Council and Roshan Real Estate Group took part in the event.
