RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s medical officials announced on Wednesday that a very complicated surgical operation to separate conjoined twins would be carried out on Thursday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The surgical operation, which follows the execution of directives from Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, will be performed under the supervision of Adviser at the Royal Court and General Supervisor of KSrelief Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Arab media reported.
A medical team is set to separate the conjoined twin brothers — Bassam and Ihsan from Syria at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, Arab News reported.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah said in a statement that the surgical operation was expected to take more than nine hours and would be performed in five phases, with the participation of 26 specialists, consultants, nursing technical, and support staff.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah added that the Syrian twins are thirty-two months old and arrived from Turkey. The medical team has also carried out examinations of the twins, he said.
He added that the operation is the 58th within the Saudi program for conjoined twins, which had supervised 130 cases from 23 nations since 1990.
Dr. Al-Rabeeah also thanked Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for the support the conjoined twins separation program receives.
