RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan on Wednesday received Kuwaiti Counterpart Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah in Riyadh, where both discussed efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and help restore regional security and stability.

The two sides also reviewed fraternal relations and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The two ministers discussed the latest developments in the region. They also addressed the Houthis attacks on Saudi Arabia, underscoring the solidarity of their nations in confronting any threats to their security and stability.

Last week, they held a phone conversation, and Sabah condemned continued attacks by the Houthis on civilian areas in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi cabinet denounces Houthi attacks

The Saudi Cabinet on Tuesday commended the advanced capabilities of the air defence systems and their success in thwarting the Houthis’ repeated attempts to target Makkah, Madinah, and several Saudi cities and facilities.

It said attacks are a grave aggression against the Kingdom’s sovereignty and the sanctity of Islamic holy sites, and a flagrant provocation to Muslims worldwide, affirming the Kingdom’s legitimate right to defend with full resolve the security of the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors, as well as the country’s citizens and residents.

Earlier this month, members of the United Nations Security Council condemned the ongoing and escalating Houthi attacks against the Kingdom, including attacks targeting civil aviation and energy infrastructure that resulted in civilian deaths and injuries.

According to a statement issued by the UN Security Council president, these included “reckless strikes targeting King Khalid International Airport” on October 10 and 11, which resulted in deaths and injuries, as well as multiple strikes targeting other airports and Aramco facilities.

They reiterated their strongest condemnation of continued Houthi attacks and threats against commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb Strait, stressing the importance of ensuring the safety of commercial vessels and their crews.
