MANILA: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance on Wednesday inaugurated the first specialized scientific course to train imams and preachers in Manila, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The three-day course launched through the religious attaché at the Saudi Embassy in the Philippines will benefit over 160 participants from among imams and mosque preachers, including female preachers.

The initiative is part of the ministry’s continuous endeavor to promote religious moderation.

The course is designed to enhance the participants’ knowledge of correct Islamic beliefs, and highlight the role of preachers in rejecting extremism, promoting moderation, and fostering a better understanding of Islamic teachings focused on compassion, tolerance, and nation-building.

The lectures, delivered by renowned Muslim scholars and preachers, will also stress the importance of countering fanaticism and extremism, and reinforce the significance of peace and coexistence in society.
