RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has held a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi and discussed the latest developments in talks between Iran and the United States.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Monday, said the discussion focused on reviewing the bilateral relations between the two countries.

They also discussed the latest developments regarding the talks hosted by Oman between Iran and the United States of America.

The ministers also discussed issues of common interest, the ministry statement added.

According to Iran’s state news agency, IRNA, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, referring to the worsening regional instability caused by Israel’s persistent atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank, as well as its violations against Lebanon, called for international action to stop what he described as the longest genocide of the century.

It is pertinent to mention that on April 17, Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman visited Iran and met with Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and discussed regional and global developments.

During the meeting, Prince Khalid delivered a letter from King Salman and conveyed the greetings of the Kingdom’s leadership.

Prince Khalid was also received by the President of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian. Regional and global developments and related efforts were discussed during the meeting. The visit came amid renewed diplomatic engagement between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan this month also spoke by phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and discussed regional developments and joint efforts to address them.

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman discussed regional developments during a call with the President of Iran, Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian.

The two leaders also exchanged congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. They also discussed recent developments in the region and reviewed several issues of mutual concern.

Back in November 2024, the chief of staff of Saudi Arabia’s armed forces, Fayyad al-Ruwaili, visited Tehran on an invitation from Major General Baqeri and met with Iranian military officials.
