RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, spoke with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, in a phone conversation and discussed regional developments.
The two officials exchanged views on key regional issues and efforts made in this regard, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.
Earlier this month the Iranian economy minister, Abdolnaser Hemmati travelled to Saudi Arabia to attend the AlUla Conference for Emerging Market Economies co-organised by the Saudi Finance Ministry and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
On the sidelines of the meeting, he met with his Saudi counterpart Mohammed Aljadaan and discussed ways to expand economic cooperation between their countries.
In October last year, Araqchi met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Riyadh and discussed bilateral ties and developments in the region.
In the same month, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian met Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan in Doha. The pair discussed the latest regional and international developments.
Prince Faisal addressing a joint press conference with the then-Iranian foreign minister Amir-Abdollahian in Jeddah in August 2023 said that Saudi Arabia looked forward to strengthening bilateral relations with Iran, noting that diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran marks a pivotal moment for regional security.
Under the deal signed in March 2023, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to reopen embassies and consulates in each other’s territories and implement security and economic cooperation agreements that were signed over 20 years ago.
